Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, the chairman of Narayana Health, is a renowned cardiac surgeon. He has an experience of 34 years in which he has brought many patients back to life by offering them proper treatment. He completed his MBBS from the University of Mysore in 1978, after which he registered with Karnataka Medical Council in 1979. In the year 1982, he received his masters degree in surgery from the University of Mysore.
Dr. Devi Shetty was the one to come up with the idea of a “micro health insurance scheme” in Karnataka, which led to the implementation of the Yeshasvini scheme by the Karnataka government. His contribution and knowledge have made him the proud holder of ‘Padma Shri’ and ‘Padma Bhushan’ in the year 2003 and 2012, respectively. Recently, he was invited to the Valedictory Ceremony of SYMHEALTH 2021 as a Guest of Honour. While Dr. Shetty lauded the efforts of overcoming the shortage of PPE kits, he warned against the dire need for a huge workforce in the hospitals to deal with the corona wave. He is continuously advising on improving the covid situation in India by sharing important feedback.
Dr. Shetty is also an active member of the European Association of Cardio and a life member of the Indian Medical Association. We appreciate his contribution to the healthcare industry, and his feedback regarding the severe condition of coronavirus in India is much needed.
